WPF windows 7 performance issue with mutltiple windows

WPF windows 7 performance issue with mutltiple windows. My application tracks hundreds of vehicles at a time across a large sattelite map thats loaded in as tiles. memory foot print about 200MB with two windows open. (looking at task manager)

The application has one main window I start with and adds views upon demand.

With one view everything is fine. Everything runs and it hums along when I add another view the app slows down to a crawl. If I were open the same app as another process the app and everything is fine. Basically the PC is not resource contraint.

The time it takes to execute the main rendering function is less than a tenth of a second and its refreshed once a second.

Why is this so SLOW when I open a second window in the same process?

Questions 1) Does adding another window do something to WPF internals to make it render like mud?

Question 2) What can do about this? I would like the keep the application running as a single app not a bunch of seperate applications.
